The year was 2014. Social media, especially Facebook, was opening up. A new world was opening up. In my quest to find out what exactly do exhibitions on handlooms and handle crafts have to offer, I visited 'Paramparik Karigar' in 2014 at CSMVS, Mumbai. That's where I met Arati Hiremath first, founder of Artikrafts, and sole promoter of Kasuti embroidery back then. Arati had designed apparels which had traditional motifs of Kasuti embroidered on contemporary textiles. A simple embroidered neckline and few butis on the body enhanced the beauty of the cotton kurtas that she had for sale. What I liked more about her initiative was the fact that she was approachable and professional at the same time. Artikrafts has been into kasuti embroidery since 1990. Arati Hiremath has maintained the essence of GI given to this craftform of Dharwad. She's based in Dharwad and has trained more than 650 artisans so far and given them a sustainable livelihood. Her products speak of finesse and master craftsmanship. I wish her and her team more power to further empower artisans with skill and economic independence.

I was looking for Kasuti hand embroidery as i had read about it online. I grew up in Karnataka and really excited to add it to my collection. That quest lead me to Aartis Facebook Page. My first saree with Kasuti work done was on a custom color ilkal silk. I was so delighted with the outcome and so glad to have it in my saree collection. I have purchased from Aarti a lot more Kasuti embroidered work since then be it, blouse pieces or sarees of different wanes. The workmanship is flawless and neat. Aarti makes sure of that! She has worked hard to promote this art and given women who work with her a platform to showcase their talent. I wish her and her team more success!

I have been visiting Arati Hiremath’s studio in Dharwad since 2018 with my groups of textile enthusiasts. All these years, Arati has been sharing detailed information about Kasuti embroidery, training of artisans, diverse customer base, outreach programmes, attachments with national level institutes and much more. Our group experiences the demonstration of needle work by her team. The studio has exclusive gift articles with a lot of variety. We learn the nuances of Kasuti from Arati and her team. Each year, I look forward to visiting her studio. My best wishes to the entire team. Hope the team continues offering handpicked collections to connoisseur of textiles.
